Greetings Treat-A-Weekers, this next recommendation is not normally something I’d include in my blog because it does not qualify as a “feel good” – there is not a single sweet or saccharine thing about it. That said, the twists and turns in the plot of this movie and the story and the amazing acting by Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett who play two high school teachers make it an unexpected treat (of sorts) and good escapism. Notes on a Scandal (2006, R) is a psychological thriller set in contemporary London that is so weird at times that I might not admit that my hubby and I found it riveting in polite company. It deals with the themes of female friendship, desire (fulfilled and unfulfilled), jealousy, midlife crisis, boredom, loneliness, opportunism and more. It’s the rare movie where you don’t know who to root for – every character is so flawed that one thing is for sure, there are no heroines or heroes in this picture. The movie is narrated by Judi Dench as she writes in her diary and her commentary is so sharp and droll that it provides comic relief at points. Do not read a review of this movie beforehand because it will ruin all the twists and turns for you. Enjoy and until next Monday….
Yours truly,
M
